There Is No Such a Thing as a Perfect, Problem-free CDN

The 2014 Content Delivery Summit will be held this coming Monday in New York City, where our VP of Product, Ramin Farassat, will be presenting on Using Big Data for Real-time Video Stream QoE Optimization. This session will draw on Conviva’s powerful user-centric data – generated from millions of devices and video players used for Internet TV viewing – to address how publishers and service providers can ensure stream resiliency during a CDN failure, protecting their brand and audience. Utilizing several case studies, Ramin will look at meeting business goals through real-time control and policy management. He will also review the issues of congestion and video buffering and how big data processing and real-time control can help improve average video bitrate and lower buffering ratio. We all know there is no such a thing as a perfect, problem-free CDN, but with good data and the right tools for processing it, TV-quality video delivered over the Internet is a very attainable goal.

The Internet is an open network with huge inconsistencies and constant variables that provide barriers to delivering reliable, high-quality video. In order to reach this goal, you must embed intelligence into your ecosystem, providing the ability to control your viewing experience.  If you’ve read our Viewer Experience Report, you are well aware that low quality is a major threat to the online video business. Conviva has one of the richest warehouses of data in the online video world – processing more than 45 billion streams from 1.6 billion devices and over 400 different media players in 2013. Analyzing this data, we see that more than 2 in 5 views have grossly inferior video quality. Additionally, only a fraction of viewers are in the ‘Optimal Experience Zone,’ where 90% of views are uninterrupted and the bitrate is above 2000 kbps. Come hear Ramin speak and he’ll explain how your business can get there.

The video business is evolving and video providers who don’t prioritize quality will lose out to competitors who do. Join us at the Content Delivery Summit next Monday to find out how to take back control and deliver a TV-quality experience. You also won’t want to miss the two keynotes – Bob Toohey, President of Verizon Digital Media Services, will also be talking about delivering a high-quality experience, while Jason Burgess, Software and Systems Architect at Comcast, will surely have some interesting insights into the MSO’s next generation IP video products. We look forward to hearing what they have to say.
